Subject: Re: Replicraft Axles

Steve,

I have purchased one of the axle assemblies from
Replicraft and much like you, I was dissapointed,
especially after spending that amount of money. I
realized immediately that the axle support plates were
dimensionally incorrect and that the angles were
considerably inaccurate. However, I found a way for
it to work so I never spoke to Steve at Replicraft
about the problem.

I rotated the axle assembly after slipping it into the
holes of the V's so that the support plates would lie
flat against the V's(V's attached to the fuse at this
point). By doing so the front and rear edges of the
support plates are no longer parallel to the V's, as
per the plans. The edge distances of the bolt holes
attaching the support plates to the V's were not
significantly changed, the smallest edge distance
being 1/2 inch plus. I reasoned that this would not
change the structural integrity of the landing gear so
I left it at that, drilled and bolted the assembly to
the V's. Its not quite as aesthetic as the plans
depict but I can deal with it. It is partially hidden
behind the large wheels anyway.

Hopefully this will work for you as well if you are
willing to accept it as such, it should since I am
sure that he used the same jig to weld each assembly.
